Licensed Residential Counselor

We have an opening for a self-motivated individual to join our team of mental health providers at Call for Help. Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Services, the full-time Residential Counselor will provide mental health counseling services to individuals within our residential programs, the Community Stabilization Program (CSP) and Transitional Living Center (TLC). This position would be best suited for a trauma-informed clinician who has experience working with serious, persistent mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders. The ideal candidate will possess experience with crisis intervention, community mental health and residential services, Illinois Medicaid Rule 132 knowledge, familiarity with assessment and treatment planning (via IM+CANS), and strong clinical skills. Flexible schedule available. 



  • Participate in screenings for clients referred to residential programs to ensure clients’ needs are adequately met upon admission and can be continuously met within the program(s). 

  • Obtain and maintain Illinois Medicaid Comprehensive Assessment of Needs and Strengths (IM+CANS) certification and complete IM+CANS for all residential clients. 

  • Provide direct services to residential clients in the form of individual and group counseling. 

  • Provide advocacy for clients as needed.

  • Provide training and coaching to other residential staff related to best practices and trauma-informed care. 

  • Develop innovative methods of delivery of services based on the needs of clients. 

  • Complete clinical documentation in a timely manner.

  • Develop community partnerships in order to coordinate care for residential clients and expand referral options. 

  • Collaborate with residential staff and community providers to coordinate treatment.

  • Participate in individual and group supervision. 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a closely related field is required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • A clinical license (LCPC or LCSW in Illinois) is strongly preferred; however, candidates pursuing licensure will be considered and clinical supervision can be provided. 

  • Experience working with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR)

  • Effective time management and organization skills

  • Requires the ability to adapt to stressful situations

  • Respond professionally in crisis situations

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all clients and adhere to all ethical standards of the counseling or social work profession. 

  • Maintain clinical licensure. 

  • Requires a dependable means of transportation to meet work requirements.
