When people face personal distress from a failed relationship, the loss of a loved one or other circumstances, Call for Help’s Suicide and Crisis Hotline is there to help. We are the only 24-hour suicide and crisis hotline in the Metro-East area.
Specially trained crisis workers are available by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We listen to callers, offer support and suggestions and link people with community resources. Call for Help is a member crisis center of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

Community Education in Suicide Prevention
Call for Help offers free educational presentations and materials on suicide prevention. Call 618-397-0968 to arrange a speaker for your school or community group.
Survivors of Suicide Support Group
Our Survivors of Suicide support group meets regularly for those who have lost a loved one to suicide. Survivors can share their experiences and gain strength and support.
Success Stories
- An 18-year-old college student called the Suicide Hotline in despair after ending a relationship. The crisis worker spoke with her for an hour and a half; by the end of the call she was talking about her good grades and other assets including winning a beauty pageant. The next day, she called back to report she was doing much better.
- Will (not his actual name) contacted Call for Help after attempting suicide. He has been seeing the Call for Help crisis counselor for weekly sessions to address the causes and reasons for his distress. Together, they have worked on new coping skills he can use to overcome anxiety, stress and low self-esteem. He has been actively participating in treatment.
